Sustainable Security at the New Businessplace ONE PLAZA in Düsseldorf

ONE PLAZA in Düsseldorf is an outstanding example of modern architecture and sustainable construction in an urban setting. The mixed-use building is located on Kennedydamm, a key hub connecting the city center, trade fair, and airport.
With a total rental area of approximately 45,000 m², ONE PLAZA offers office spaces, retail areas, dining facilities, and shared amenities such as a fitness studio and an underground car park with a dedicated bicycle storage area.
Designed by HPP Architects, the architecture stands out for its striking façade design and dynamic architectural language, giving the building a distinctive character. Developed according to the highest ESG standards, ONE PLAZA is set to achieve both LEED Gold and WiredScore Platinum certifications upon completion.
With ONE PLAZA, Düsseldorf gains an impressive office complex that sets new standards not only in design but also in sustainability and building technology.
A key component of this holistic approach is the locking system, which must meet special requirements in new construction projects with yet undefined tenants. The choice fell on the modular and flexible WILKA SI6 locking system — planned and installed by Gölzner GmbH, a long-standing WILKA specialist and expert in security technology.

Future-Proof Security Meets Sustainability

The decision to implement the WILKA SI6 system was made consciously within the project’s broader sustainability strategy.
“A forward-thinking building like ONE PLAZA needs not only sustainable materials and energy-efficient technologies,” explains Celine Hermkes, Security Technology Consultant and Project Manager at Gölzner GmbH, “but also durable, low-maintenance, and modular locking systems that can adapt flexibly to future user requirements.”
This is where the SI6 system excels: on one hand, it meets the highest safety standards thanks to its sophisticated mechanical design, copy protection, and drilling, picking, and extraction resistance. On the other hand, its modularity and adaptability ensure efficient and resource-saving operation for decades to come.

Tailor-Made Solution Despite Undefined Tenant Structure

One of the main challenges in the locking plan was to design a system that could accommodate all eventualities without a fixed tenant structure.
In close coordination between Gölzner GmbH, WILKA, and the construction management team, a custom solution was developed based on a detailed locking plan diagram — a clearly structured system comprising 67 locking groups, 52 central cylinders, and master keys for the fire department and building operator.
Project Manager Celine Hermkes coordinated the implementation — from initial planning and stakeholder coordination to final production release. The realization period lasted around six months, from commissioning to full installation.

Another factor contributing to the project’s sustainability was its efficient execution.
Thanks to a revised floor plan with clear locking assignments and pre-sorted deliveries by floor, installation could be carried out quickly and with minimal effort.
“The straightforward installation of the SI6 system was a major advantage for us — especially in a new construction project like ONE PLAZA, where time and resource efficiency are crucial,” emphasizes WILKA Project Manager Manuel Immach.
