Brainfactory Bochum – Modern Working Environments Meet Sustainable Security Technology

Brainfactory Bochum is a modern, forward-looking office building located at O-Werk | Campus am Mark 51°7, an innovative district developed on the site of the former Opel manufacturing plant. Completed in 2024, the six-storey building offers a gross floor area of approximately 9,600 square metres and combines creative workspaces with sustainable architecture.

Designed according to the “Spirit Offices” concept, which intelligently integrates healthy working environments, communication and technology, the building sets new standards for modern office locations in the Ruhr region. Spacious communal areas, a landscaped rooftop terrace and a climate-friendly energy supply underline the project’s holistic approach.

Keycept Sicherheitstechnik, led by Managing Director Numan Özgür, was involved in the locking-system planning at an early stage of the project. In a commercially used office property with different usage units and potentially changing tenant structures, a well-designed and future-proof locking organisation is essential.

The requirement was therefore a high-quality, protected mechanical master key system offering a high level of security, technical key-copy protection and long-term usability. Durability, reliable operation and a clear organisational structure for additional orders and future expansions were key priorities.

Choosing Carat S1

The decision was made in favour of the Carat S1 security cylinder system from WILKA Schließtechnik. A total of 134 locking cylinders were installed throughout the Brainfactory building.

Carat S1 features a protected customer profile that not only delivers certified security, high material quality and a premium feel in daily use, but also enables rapid response when keys are lost or additional keys are required.

From a technical perspective, the mechanical locking system is characterised by a vertical, user-friendly dimple key system that combines high security standards with ease of use.

The customer-specific profile ensures that keys can only be obtained through the authorised specialist dealer, Keycept, and cannot be reproduced without permission.

The vertical key insertion design simplifies everyday use and enhances user convenience for all user groups.

The profile cylinder is manufactured in accordance with the European standards DIN 18252 and EN 1303. Depending on the cylinder size, the core features six active pin tumblers and numerous profile control pins. Combined with dedicated copy-protection elements and optional drill and pull protection, the system provides a high level of mechanical security.

Another key advantage is the security card issued when the system is commissioned. It serves as an organisational and legal proof of authorisation for the controlled duplication of additional cylinders or keys and prevents unauthorised key copies from being produced.

Project Implementation Through a Strong Partnership

Overall project management was handled by Keycept Sicherheitstechnik Managing Director Numan Özgür, who supervised the locking system from planning through to completion and worked with the building owner to select the Carat S1 system. Close cooperation between the building owner, specialist dealer and manufacturer ensured that all requirements were implemented precisely.

On behalf of WILKA, the project was supported by Sales Representative Manuel Immach. He established contact between the construction management team and the specialist dealer at an early stage and coordinated the project internally within WILKA. Due to the tight project schedule, he personally delivered the locking system to the construction site in order to reduce shipping times and keep the project on track.
