5-star resort in Croatia

WILKA locking system and emergency exit door locks secure a 5-star resort in Croatia
With Resort Pical in Poreč, Valamar Riviera d.d. has completed one of Croatia’s largest hotel and tourism projects. Opened in 2026, the 5-star resort brings together hotel, leisure, wellness, sports and conference facilities across an extensive site on the Adriatic coast.
The resort includes several dining and leisure areas, a spa and wellness centre, sports facilities and Istria’s largest conference centre, with a capacity of around 1,200 people. The wide variety of facilities places high demands on the organisation, operation and security of the entire infrastructure.
For a project of this scale, professional access management for the numerous buildings and functional areas is essential. The operator therefore relies on solutions from WILKA Schließtechnik.
Mechanical security for key building areas
While the hotel rooms are equipped with electronic access systems, the operator opted for a mechanical master key system for the resort’s numerous general, technical and functional areas. The WILKA SINUS Carat S4 locking system is used for this purpose.
The patented locking system offers a high level of security thanks to its vertical key profile and additional lateral profile checks. The security card also ensures controlled key duplication and protects against unauthorised key copies. Its ability to accommodate complex locking hierarchies makes the system particularly suitable for large properties with different user groups and access authorisations.
Around 1,000 profile cylinders were integrated into the master key system. A large proportion of the cylinders were manufactured in black to blend harmoniously with the resort’s overall architectural concept.
The installation is complemented by around 20 WILKA emergency exit door locks installed in the building envelope. The Series 6000 locks and electronically engageable Series 7000 locks used in the project are specifically designed for single- and double-leaf escape and emergency exit doors in aluminium and steel profile systems. They meet the requirements of EN 179 and EN 1125, combining a high level of security with ease of operation. Depending on the version, self-locking functions ensure that doors are automatically securely locked again after closing.
WILKA specialist dealer handles planning, production and implementation
The project was implemented in close cooperation with Croatian WILKA specialist dealer Super Kljuc from Samobor. The company supports customers from planning and production through to the installation of master key systems and has many years of experience in sophisticated security solutions.
One special feature of the project was that the WILKA cylinders required for the resort were manufactured directly by Super Kljuc. As an authorised WILKA partner with its own production capabilities, the company was able to respond flexibly to the requirements and construction progress of this large-scale project.
“From consultation and planning to cylinder production and installation, we were able to handle every phase of the project from a single source,” explains Mladen Mocan, Managing Director of Super Kljuc. “Particularly on a project of this scale, it was important to be able to respond quickly to changes and provide the required components at short notice.”
The same high quality standards that apply to production at WILKA’s headquarters in Velbert also apply to local production.
“Our authorised production partners work according to clearly defined specifications and processes,” explains Jens Hantel, Sales Director Trade at WILKA. “The locking cylinders used are supplied by WILKA, production is carried out in accordance with our standards, and our partners receive regular training and support. This enables us to ensure that our customers receive the same quality, precision and functional reliability they expect from WILKA – regardless of whether the cylinders are manufactured in Velbert or by a certified partner.”
In addition to installing the hardware, Super Kljuc was also responsible for organising and commissioning the master key system. This included preparing and coordinating the locking plan as well as instructing the operator in the management and use of the system. This ensured that the resort’s complex access structure could be organised efficiently and transparently from the outset.
Even after completion of the project, Super Kljuc remains the operator’s central point of contact. Whether for additional key orders, extensions to the master key system or adaptations to changing requirements, the specialist dealer’s local presence enables services and modifications to be carried out quickly and easily.
“Resort Pical is a fantastic project in Europe that brings together products from different areas – from locking cylinders to emergency exit door locks,” says Jens Hantel, Sales Director Trade at WILKA.
Hantel is also very positive about the cooperation with the specialist dealer:
“Our collaboration with Super Kljuc was characterised by a high level of technical expertise and reliability. The company has extensive know-how in the planning and implementation of complex master key systems and provided highly professional support throughout the project.”
Mechanical systems remain indispensable
The project demonstrates that mechanical master key systems continue to play a key role in modern hotel projects – particularly in areas where robust, low-maintenance and cost-effective access solutions are required.
With the WILKA S4 system and the Series 6000 and 7000 panic locks, Resort Pical is therefore well equipped for the future – not only architecturally, but also in terms of security.
